Head of Mathematics Department

Academics, Canterbury are currently working closely with a secondary school in the City of Canterbury District and are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Head of Mathematics. This full-time, permanent position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced maths teacher to shape the future of our students and department, driving high academic standards and fostering a passion for mathematics across all year groups.

As Head of Mathematics, you will take responsibility for the leadership, development, and management of the department. You will be instrumental in ensuring that students achieve their full potential, providing leadership and guidance to our talented team of teachers, and working closely with senior leadership to develop and deliver the curriculum. This is a rewarding role where you will have the chance to implement your vision for mathematics teaching and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead and manage the Mathematics Department, fostering a collaborative and supportive team culture.

* Develop and implement an engaging and challenging mathematics curriculum that meets the needs of all students.

* Monitor and evaluate student progress, ensuring the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning.

* Set high expectations for students' achievements, ensuring that they make excellent progress.

* Line manage and provide professional development opportunities for mathematics teachers.

* Take responsibility for the development of department schemes of work, ensuring they are in line with national standards and best practice.

* Contribute to whole-school initiatives and strategies, supporting the wider development of the school.

* Foster a love of mathematics through extracurricular activities, competitions, and clubs.

Person Specification:

* Qualified teacher status (QTS) and a degree in Mathematics or a related subject.

* Significant experience of teaching mathematics at secondary level, with a proven record of excellent student outcomes.

* Experience of leadership or a desire to take the next step in your leadership career.

* Strong understanding of the mathematics curriculum and examination specifications at both GCSE and A-Level.

* Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills.

* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
