My Client, a market leading Hydrology and Flood Sensing organisation, is searching for a Hydrometeorologist to join their experienced technical team. You can be based in Loughborough, London or from home!

As a Hydrometeorologist you will be expected to improve the use of weather models to assist flood forecasting. Successful candidates will work at the forefront of forecasting science and you will join a highly skilled team of modellers, hydrologists and designers.

The role will focus on sourcing, evaluating and utilising global weather data sets to support flood forecasting systems.

You will be expected to develop best practice in flood risk communication and source, evaluate and process global and national weather data sets to identify the best models to be used in flood forecasting.

You will also be expected to;

-Develop and maintain a good understanding of the latest developments in hydrometeorology.

-Develop innovative approaches for utilising types of ensemble weather data sets to support flood forecasting.

-Research and test different deterministic and ensemble weather data to optimise processes for simulating live flood events.

-Test weather APIs to assess performance.

-Using Python and GIS to validate weather data performance.

-Calibrate, test and assess the performance of the flood forecasting system using flood forecasting and weather data.

-Complete reports for grants.

-Deliver projects to time and budget.

-Client meetings to discuss project progress.

Candidates are required to have a strong BSc, MSc and or PHD in meteorology, hydrology, science or mathematics and experience working for a UK based Consultancy, Local Authority or University specialising in python, geospatial processes, GIS and analysing large weather data sets.

You will also be expected to have experience of radar, forecasted rainfall, and their respective resolutions.
