Position: Ornithologist

Location: Exeter

Salary: £23,000 - £32,000 (DOE)

A leading multidisciplinary consultancy specialising in areas such as masterplanning, urban design, landscape architecture, environmental assessments, ecology, arboriculture, and green infrastructure is seeking an Ornithologist to join their team in Exeter.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Ornithologist, you will collaborate closely with Ecologists, Landscape Architects, and Design Planners, with responsibilities including:

* Leading and conducting ornithological surveys

* Collecting and analysing data, performing desk-based research, and preparing technical reports

* Experience in Ecological Impact Assessments and Shadow Habitats Regulations Assessments is a strong advantage

* Supporting additional ecological surveys, such as those for water voles, otters, badgers, bats, and various habitats

* Offering ecological and ornithological advice to clients, stakeholders, and project teams

* Mentoring colleagues with an interest in ornithology, fostering their professional growth

* Building and nurturing relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies

Requirements:

* Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field

* Strong bird identification skills and experience in ornithological survey techniques

* Willingness to travel as required

* Solid knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and bird conservation statuses

* Proven report writing skills, with attention to detail and accuracy

* Familiarity with scientific data collection, analysis, and accurate data storage methods

* CIEEM membership is desirable

* Experience with GIS software is a plus

* Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle
