Role Overview
My client is seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join their team in London. The successful candidate will have a strong background in planning and a proven track record in managing a variety of projects, from large-scale developments to smaller, more complex schemes. This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Planner to work on high-profile projects and contribute to the growth of a well-established planning consultancy. The role offers significant responsibility, client-facing experience, and the opportunity to lead and mentor junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation and submission of planning applications, including the preparation of supporting documentation, planning statements, and design proposals.
- Manage a portfolio of projects from inception to completion, ensuring that they meet client objectives, planning requirements, and deadlines.
- Provide strategic planning advice to clients, including advice on planning policy, site appraisals, and planning strategies.
- Liaise directly with local authorities, stakeholders, and other professionals to navigate planning applications and secure planning permissions.
- Lead and manage project teams, ensuring the quality of work and timely delivery of services.
- Prepare and present planning evidence for planning inquiries, hearings, and public consultations.
- Monitor and advise on changes to planning legislation, policy, and case law, ensuring projects are compliant with current regulations.
- Mentor and support junior planners, offering guidance on project management and professional development.
- Represent the company at meetings with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders, ensuring strong client relationships are maintained.
Key Requirements
- A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
- A minimum of 4-5 years of professional experience in town planning, with a focus on managing and delivering complex planning projects.
- Full RTPI membership (MRTPI) and ideally chartered status (Chartered Town Planner, CTP).
- In-depth knowledge of UK planning law, policy, and procedures, with experience in development management, planning applications, and appeals.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present and explain complex planning matters clearly and persuasively.
- Proficiency in planning software (e.g., GIS, AutoCAD) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- A proactive, solution-focused approach, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
