Teaching Assistant

Location : Taverham, Norwich NR8 6PJ

Salary: SCP4 £24,404 - SCP6 £25,193 FTE per annum, Pro-Rata - £11,295 - £11,865 per annum

Hours : 9.00 - 13.00, Monday - Friday (20hours per week)

Contract : Fixed Term until July 2025

The Infant and Nursery School is a member of the Education Trust. The Trust is an expanding multi-academy trust with 11 primary and 9 secondary schools.

The Role

They are very excited to announce that The Infant and Nursery School are looking for a Teaching Assistant to support in their Nursery.

They are ideally looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant who has a good knowledge of working with children with SEND. Part of the role will be supporting children with complex needs; as part of a strong team of adults in the classroom.

The main purpose of the role is to providing general and specific assistance to pupils and staff under the direction, guidance and direct supervision of the classroom teacher. The post holder will also supervise children during lunchtimes to support and develop their health and well-being and social development.

The post holder will be responsible to their class teacher for day-to-day activities.

The post holder interacts on a professional level with colleagues - including outside agencies - and members of the trust team, seeking to establish and maintain productive relationships with them in order to promote mutual understanding of the school curriculum with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and learning in the school.

Key Responsibilities

* Work with individuals or small groups of pupils in the classroom under the direct supervision of teaching staff and provide feedback to the teacher.

* Support pupils to understand instructions.

* Support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils.

* Working flexibly with students with a full range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) enabling them to access the curriculum.

* Support the teacher in behaviour management and keeping pupils on task.

* Support a restorative and therapeutic approach to behaviour.

* Support pupils in social and emotional well-being, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate, alongside recording these where appropriate.

* Prepare and clear up learning environment and resources, including photocopying, filing and the display and presentation of pupils work and contribute to maintaining a safe environment.

* Support children in their play.

* Inform the class teacher of significant issues which have arisen at lunchtime, recording any significant issues in the class record files or on special forms for children.

* Refer any concerns regarding the safeguarding of children to the designated person or alternate.

* Deal with first aid on the playground wherever possible or bring the child into the medical room to attend to if more severe. Complete the written record forms and pass onto the class teacher and office.

* Supervise children in all areas of the school, including the dining room, play areas and classrooms as directed by the Headteacher to ensure the safety and good behaviour of the children.

* Assist generally in the dining area e.g., Wiping up spillages to ensure a safe and ordered environment is always maintained.

* Set up and clear away the tables and chairs in the dining room.

Skills and Qualifications

The personal competencies expected of all School support staff are:

* The ability to communicate clearly and tactfully using appropriate methods and an awareness of the impact of your own communication on others;

* Able to maintain positive relationships with all and able to work as an effective and flexible part of a team; willing to change methods of work and routines to benefit the team;

* Willingness to accept responsibility for your own actions; the ability to prioritise effectively, meet deadlines and accept challenges.

The professional competencies expected of a Teaching Assistant are:

* Adhere to the school policies, undertaking training as required

* Be computer literate, or willing to learn

* Be flexible - changes to timetables can take place at the last minute!

* Attend meetings, CPD and participate in performance management

* Ensure confidential material is handled appropriately and sensitively

The qualifications and previous experience required for a Teaching Assistant are:

* A minimum of a grade C / 4, or equivalent, in English and Maths GCSE,

* Good communication skills and an interest in working with children and young people

* A good level of literacy and numeracy.
