Teaching Assistant for Children - Abingdon
KS1/KS2 students with Mental Health Needs

There is an opportunity for a new Teaching Assistant to join your local primary school in Culham, Abingdon, your main responsibility will be to support students aged 5 - 11 years old with mental health and behavioural needs. If you are currently in the industry, you will better know this as SEN, from SEMH, behavioural issues, children in care, ADHD and not limited to any physcial and learning difficulty.
You will provide a nurturing and structured environment for the EYFS/KS1/KS2 children, allowing them to be more comfortable in their school envirnment and achieving their academic targets.
Teaching Assistant Requirements:
* A Level 3 qualification or above (Degree-level qualifications are highly desirable).
* Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals (personal or professional).
* Resilience, adaptability, and a proactive approach.
* A genuine interest in mental health and supporting young people.
Details:
* Role: Teaching Assistant
* Location: Culham, Abingdon
* Start Date: January 2025
* Pay: £83 - £90 per day (dependent on experience, qualifications, and training).
* Contract: Long-term temporary, with the potential for permanent opportunities.
* Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 3:30 pm.
* Experience: Desired but not essential; enthusiasm and a positive attitude are key.
This role is particularly well-suited to graduates in Psychology, Criminology, or Counselling, as well as individuals with relevant experience working with children or vulnerable adults. You'll gain hands-on experience supporting students with a range of needs, including Autism, ADHD, and developmental trauma, making it an excellent stepping stone for careers in psychology, therapy, education, or criminal justice.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support Abingdon SEN students' social, emotional, and academic development through tailored interventions.
* Assist the class teacher in managing behaviour and providing a safe learning environment.
* Work alongside experienced therapists and psychologists to implement therapeutic strategies.
* Build strong, trusting relationships with students to help them regulate emotions and overcome challenges.
* Adapt communication and learning approaches to suit individual needs.
